Alex Gidlow, Head Coach Alex comes to the Bucs with an incredible background in swimming, water polo, and coaching, bringing years of experience, enthusiasm and a deep connection to the local swimming community. Alex spent 11 seasons swimming for the Oakhurst North Torpedoes, 12 years with Maverick Swim Club, four years as a varsity swimmer at Metea Valley High School, and four years competing at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. During his swimming career, at Metea Valley High School, Alex was a three-time IHSA State Qualifier and earned All-State honors in the 200 Medley Relay his senior year; and became a WIAC Conference Champion in the 800 Free Relay while swimming at UW-Whitewater in 2015. He also remains a team record holder at UW-Whitewater in both the 200 Free Relay and 800 Free Relay. In addition to his swimming background, Alex played water polo for four years at Metea Valley and three summers with the West Suburban Water Polo Club. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in Education (Social Studies Broadfield Education), Alex dove headfirst into coaching and teaching. He’s currently in his eighth year at Metea Valley High School as an Aquatics Assistant and Substitute Teacher, where he also serves as the Assistant Coach for the Boys Swim Team. He also was the Assistant Coach for the Girls Swim Team (3 years) and Head Coach for the Boys Water Polo Team (3 years). Alex is also in his eighth year coaching with Maverick Swim Club, where he primarily leads Core 2 (11 to 12-year-olds) and Seniors Group (high schoolers). And for the past 14 summers, Alex has been a key member of the Oakhurst North coaching staff, with the last 10 seasons as their Head Coach. |
